Cereal producers size up export opportunities in Iraq…

Southeastern Anatolia’s exports of cereals, pulses, oil seeds and products sector in the first 4 months of the year was 1.1 billion dollars.

Compared to the same period of the previous year, the country to which the cereal exporters in the region, whose exports soared by 8.4 percent, exported the most was Iraq with a market share of 35.2 percent.

The 3-day Iraq programme of the Southeastern Anatolia Cereals, Pulses, Oil Seeds and Products Exporters’ Association, which carries out more than half of Türkiye’s cereal exports to Iraq, started with a visit to Mardin Governor Tuncay Akkoyun. The Chair of the Association Celal Kadooğlu and the members of the Board of Directors then came together with the executives of Non-Governmental Organisations representing the business world of Mardin province.

Stating that Mardin is the production base of the country in the field of cereals, Kadooğlu said, “We care very much about Mardin, which is the second largest exporter province in our region. If there is a problem in Mardin, it means that one of our wings is broken.”

“The solution of the problems in exports to Iraq is vital for the region”

Pointing out that the problems experienced in the Iraqi market adversely affected Mardin region and the cereals sector the most, Kadooğlu explained, “The exports of our region, especially Mardin, are largely dependent on Iraq. We are making great efforts to solve the problems experienced in the Iraqi market. As an association, we prepared reports on the problems experienced in this regard and our solution suggestions and presented them to our Minister of Trade, Vice President and President.”

“In the report, we underlined that the problems experienced in the Iraqi market will not only have economic consequences, but will also lead to sociological and demographic problems if the they are not solved. Our struggle on this issue will continue. Because the solution of the problems in exports to Iraq is vital for our region,” Kadooğlu added…
