Günhan Ulusoy: The history of flour industry was written in Anatolia!

Eren Günhan Ulusoy, Chair of the International Association of Operative Millers (IAOM), announced that wheat, the gift of the soil, comes to life with the labour of the farmer and enables industrialists to carry Türkiye’s flag to the world with exports.

Eren Günhan Ulusoy made a written statement on the occasion of 14 May World Farmers’ Day and stated that the history of flour industry was written in Anatolia.

Emphasising that wheat constitutes 60 percent of Türkiye’s grain production, Ulusoy said, “Wheat, the gift of the soil, comes to life with the labour of the farmers and enables industrialists to carry Türkiye’s flag to the world with exports.”

Noting that the share of domestic wheat in total consumption should be maximised, Ulusoy explained, “In this way, while our farmers earn more, our flour industry will export with the raw material obtained from the domestic market and we will bring more foreign currency to our economy with the exports.”

Ulusoy also pointed out that licensed warehousing, which is important in terms of providing incentives on the operator and farmer side, establishing the system on solid foundations and offering advantages to the country’s economy and agriculture in the long term, has examples of advanced systems in the world.

Highlighting that licensed warehousing is an important sector that benefits the region where it operates and the country’s economy and is described with the term ‘grain dam’, Ulusoy added, “Although we observe that the foundations of the system were laid late for Türkiye, the current pace of development is satisfactory. Licensed warehousing plays an important role in controlling the price fluctuations of products and makes production and storage traceable. Applications to establish licensed warehouses reached 16 million tonnes, while the licensed capacity reached 7 million tonnes.”
