Rosehips, which grow naturally in Türkiye’s northeastern province of Gümüşhane, are transformed into marmalade through a laborious process; 100 grams of rosehips contain the equivalent of a crate of oranges in vitamin C and are considered an effective remedy against illnesses like the flu.
Home to 17 of Türkiye’s 27 rosehip species, the rosehip fruit, which grows naturally in the countryside, arrives on the table as a healing force after a challenging journey. Preparing 1 kilogram of rosehip marmalade takes two days, starting from the rugged mountains of Gümüşhane region.
Rosehips, known locally as the “thorny rose,” have been held in festivals for years in Gümüşhane. Containing the equivalent vitamin C of a crate of oranges per 100 grams, they are harvested from their thorny branches in the mountains of Gümüşhane and, after a grueling process, are packaged in jars as marmalade.
In Gümüşhane province, one of the gene centres of rosehip fruit, which is considered one of the purest fruits because it grows organically in nature, citizens collect rosehips one by one from nature and turn them into marmalade after long and tiring processes…
