604 million dollars of exports from the fisheries and animal products sector in the first half of the year…

Bedri Girit, Chairperson of the Aegean Fisheries and Animal Products Exporters’s Association, said that as the Turkish fisheries and animal products industry, they have been one of the star sectors of exports in Turkey since the beginning of the 2000s.

Stating that with an export amount of 2.5 billion dollars that they realized at the end of 2019, Girit said, “We were one of the leading sectors to achieve the export targets of 2023. At the end of 2020, despite the pandemic, we have realized an export of 2.4 billion dollars as the industry.”

The fisheries and animal products sector realized its exports as 1.5 billion dollars in the January-June 2021 period, with an increase of 36 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. The sector had a share of 1.5 percent in overall exports of 104.9 billion dollars in Turkey.

Girit explained, “As the Aegean Fisheries and Animal Products Exporters’ Association, we maintained our position as the leading exporter association in our sector in Turkey, by signing 604 million dollars worth of exports in the first half of 2021. We contributed 40.2% to Turkey’s 1.5 billion dollars aquaculture and animal products exports during this period.”

In the first 6 months of January-June 2021, the top 5 sub-sectors to which the most exports are realized are respectively, aquaculture with 649 million dollars, poultry meat with 349 million dollars, eggs with 179 million dollars, poultry products with a total of 528 million dollars, milk and milk products with 205 million dollars. dairy products and natural honey with 13.6 million dollars.

“The number of active members of our Aegean Fisheries and Animal Products Exporters’ Association is 249 in the first half of 2021. Furthermore, we export aquatic products and animal products, mainly poultry meat, eggs, dairy products and honey, to more than 120 countries in total,” Girit added.

“To take a larger share as a sector in exports to the Middle East, Turkic Republics, Japan, Brazil and African countries, especially to the markets of China, Mexico, Russia and India, where Turkey is determined as the priority countries in exports in the new period and whose size exceeds 2.8 trillion dollars, we plan to remove the current political and technical obstacles we encounter in the aforementioned markets and to develop promotional activities and projects for these countries,” Girit concluded…
