AEGEAN EXPORTERS TO HOST THE WORLD’S MOST IMPORTANT SPICE SUMMIT!

Press release…

Those who shape the world spice gather in the Aegean with a busy agenda…

The 2022 Ordinary General Assembly Meeting of the European Spice Association (ESA), one of the three most important organizations that shape the spice industry worth 20 billion dollars in the world, will be held in Bodrum on October 5-8, under the organization of Aegean Exporters’ Associations (EIB).

As the first Turkish exporter elected to the Board of Directors of the European Spice Association (ESA), of which Turkey has been a member since 2001, Nurettin Tarakçıoğlu, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Aegean Furniture Paper and Forest Products Exporters’ Association, who has been serving as the ESA Board of Directors in the past years, said:

“The 2010 Ordinary General Assembly of the European Spice Association (ESA) was held in Kuşadası, hosted by the Aegean Exporters’ Associations. As can be understood from our motto ‘It’s spice it up again’ determined for the General Assembly, 12 years later, we are coming together again in our country, hosted by the EIB, right after the pandemic and reviving the historical Spice Road. This event is an extremely important opportunity for the Turkish spice industry to introduce itself to the world’s giants. We export about 30 percent of our spice exports to the European Continent. At ESA, Türkiye is represented as an important actor in the spice industry in the world.”

Tarakçıoğlu emphasized that especially the Aegean Region is the epicenter of Türkiye’s spice exports and that 62 percent of the country’s spice exports are realized by Aegean exporters.

“In 2021, Türkiye’s spice exports soared by 5 percent to 212 million dollars, while Aegean exports amounted to 132 million dollars with a rise of 3 percent. In the January-August period of 2022, our country’s spice exports reached 132 million dollars. In the same period, 82 million dollars of spice exports were made from the Aegean Region. While the average unit price per kg in Türkiye is 1.38 dollars, the average unit price per kilogram in the Aegean Region is 3.15 dollars. There is almost 2 and a half times the difference,” Tarakçıoğlu added.

“It is important for us that our product is exported at its value and that it finds its value. We have been working for months to pass a successful exam at the ESA 2022 Ordinary General Assembly. We would like to express our endless thanks to the Chair of the Aegean Cereals, Pulses, Oil Seeds and Products Exporters’ Association, Mr. Muhammet Öztürk along with Ömre Sıcılı, Şükrü Altuntaş, Müge Birer, Etem Uyar for their hard work in this process,” he concluded…
