October, 2026…
M. Emre Uygun, Chairman of the Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters’ Association, stated that data from the field points to a high harvest of table olives and olive oil in the 2026/27 season.

“The high harvest presents a significant opportunity for the sector. However, high yields are also expected in the world’s largest producer countries, Spain, Italy, Greece and Tunisia. This situation reduces the export prospects for Turkish olive oil. Through our OLIVEtoLIVE UR-GE project (International Competitiveness Development Project), our international trade fairs, our sector-specific trade delegations and our export strategy focused on packaged, value-added products, we will strive to sustain our exports in 2027. In the medium term, our aim is to ramp up the sector’s exports to 1 billion dollars,” he said.
Call for a 60,000-tonne quota from the EU and the removal of additional tariffs in the USA…
Uygun noted that customs duties and quota restrictions in the USA and European Union markets are limiting the growth of Turkish olive and olive oil exports and emphasised the need for regulations to enhance the sector’s competitiveness.
Uygun also underlined that the 12.5 percent additional customs duty applied to Turkish products in the USA market must be lifted, whilst in the European Union, they are calling for the current 100-tonne olive oil quota to be increased to at least 60,000 tonnes.
Touching upon the free trade agreement negotiations with the United Kingdom, Uygun added,, “We expect our olives and olive oil to be granted zero-duty access to the UK market. To convert the high harvest of the new season into increased exports, we must improve our market access opportunities and boost our exports of value-added and packaged products.”
