The fisheries sector, one of the star sectors of exports, continued to write a success story in exports during the January-April period of 2026.

The Turkish aquaculture sector ramped up its exports by 21 percent to reach 737 million dollars in the January-April period of 2026. The strong increase in sea bass and sea bream fillet exports revealed that the sector is undergoing a significant transformation in value-added production.

The Turkish aquaculture sector achieved an average export growth rate of 32 million dollars per month during the four-month period of 2026.

Fresh Sea Bass Fillet Exports Surged by 45 percent…

Referring to the export growth success achieved in all categories of seafood, including sea bass, sea bream, Turkish salmon, tuna, trout, rock bass and other seafood products, Ufuk Atakan Demir, Chair of the Aegean Fisheries and Animal Products Exporters Association, stated, “In our seafood sector, sea bass maintained its leadership in exports. Sea bass exports, which were 197 million dollars in the January-April period of 2025, reached 257 million dollars in the first four months of 2026, a spike of 31 percent. While 120 million dollars worth of sea bass exports were fresh of which 70 million dollars were exported as fresh fillets. Fresh sea bass fillet exports, which were 48 million dollars in the January-April period of 2025, showed a 45 percent spike. Sea bream exports surged by 13 percent, from 170 million to 192 million dollars. Frozen fillet exports also surged in sea bream exports with 41 percent from 14.5 million to 20.5 million dollars.”

Pointing out that consumers now prefer not only high-quality products but also practical, processed and ready-to-use products, Demir explained, “As a sector, we are transforming our production model according to this demand. The spike we have achieved, especially in the fillet product group, clearly demonstrates the development of processing technologies in Turkish companies and their competitiveness in international markets. Today, the Turkish aquaculture sector has a strong position in world markets not only with its production volume but also with its quality standards, sustainable production approach and high value-added product variety.”

“Trust and demand for Turkish aquaculture products are increasing in many markets, especially in Europe. We believe that with the increase in processed product investments in the coming period, we will further boost our export value per kilogram,” he added…
