Celal Kadooğlu, President of the Southeastern Anatolia Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds and Products Exporters’ Association, stated that 2025 will be a serious test for the wheat flour sector, where Türkiye has maintained its global leadership for the last 12 years.

“Wheat flour exports in the first eight months of the year decreased by nearly 35 percent compared to the same period last year, falling to 1.5 million tonnes, while revenue decreased by 33.7 percent to 575.5 million dollars. This decline was driven by subsidies for domestic wheat and flour production in Iraq, our largest market, tightening import regulations and customs delays that disrupted our shipments,” he said.
Underlining that investments in capacity expansion by local factories in Iraq exacerbate their market losses, he noted, “While our exports in Syria are increasing, selling flour at nearly the price of wheat strains profitability and jeopardizes sustainability. In such a period, controlling the factors that spike production costs, accelerating the search for new markets and strengthening political and commercial dialogue with Iraq are critical for the sector to regain momentum.”
“As Southeastern Anatolia, we are taking numerous steps to both maintain our presence in the Iraqi market and effectively capitalize on opportunities in Syria. We believe that strengthening dialogue between senior management will significantly contribute to this process,” he added…
