Press release…
Ahmet Tiryakioğlu draws attention to the fact that crop losses in staple products such as wheat, barley and sunflower due to climate change increase the risks to the sustainability of agricultural production.
Ahmet Tiryakioğlu, Turkish Exporters’ Assembly, (TİM) Chairman of the Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds and Products Sector Board, stated that factors such as reduced rainfall and drought create instability in raw material supply, while small and fragmented business structures further exacerbate these risks.

“This situation demonstrates the need for basin-based production and joint management models. At the same time, strengthening control mechanisms in licensed warehousing, expanding digital tracking and increasing transparency are emerging as factors that will support an environment of trust in the sector,” he said.
“On a global scale, new factory investments emerging in markets such as Iraq and Russia signal that competition in the export of some of our sector’s products will intensify. Therefore, it is imperative that our companies increase their activities in new regions, accelerate institutionalisation, and develop strategies to adapt to changing dynamics, rather than focusing solely on existing markets,” he noted.
Pointing out that they are seeing an example of this in the US market, he added, “In the remainder of the year, we achieved a 34 per cent spike in this market, which, with a 7.1 per cent share, has reached almost half the share of the Iraqi market in our grain exports. We can write new success stories in the US market in the new period, where we will enhance this momentum with promotional projects supported by the Ministry of Trade.”
