The year 2024 has been determined as the hottest year recorded in Türkiye since 1971 with an average temperature of 16.8 degrees Celsius. There were 900 extreme natural events in 8 months; among these events, the forest fire in Izmir province, heavy rainfall in Antalya province and lightning strikes in Amasya region stood out. 136 centres broke monthly maximum temperature records and precipitation amounts were below long-term averages.
According to the data of the General Directorate of Meteorology’s ‘Türkiye 2024 Early Climate Assessment’, the average temperature for 8 months in 2024 in the country was measured as 16.8 degrees.
