Yusuf Gabay: The strong position of Turkish dried fruit in the global market is based on our robust institutional and technical infrastructure

Executives from FRUCOM, Waren-Verein and NZV visited Türkiye at the invitation of the Aegean Exporters’ Associations (EIB) and met with producers, research institutions and exporters.

The Aegean Dried Fruit and Products Exporters’ Association has strengthened its long-standing cooperation with sector organisations in Europe through a comprehensive programme spanning from production sites to research institutions and from exporting businesses to decision-making processes in Europe.

The delegation included FRUCOM Secretary-General Anna Boulova; João Pereira, FRUCOM Food Policy Adviser and also responsible for the technical agenda of The Nut & Dried Fruit Trade Association (NDFTA), which represents the dried fruit and nut sector in the United Kingdom; Jeanette Gonnermann, General Manager of Waren-Verein der Hamburger Börse e.V. General Manager Jeanette Gonnermann and Food Policy Adviser Ute Thote, as well as NZV Secretary Barbara Niemans and Regulatory Affairs Adviser Danielle Vreedzaam.

Throughout the programme, European stakeholders met directly with producers, researchers and exporters; they had the opportunity to see first-hand the value chain of Turkish dried fruit, ranging from the orchard to harvest, from drying to laboratory analyses, from product acceptance to processing and quality control and from export to international marketing.

Yusuf Gabay, Chair of the Aegean Dried Fruit and Products Exporters’ Association, stated the strategic importance of Europe for the Turkish dried fruit sector and announced that they are conducting a comprehensive initiative—from production to international regulations—to safeguard the sector’s competitive edge.

Noting that the strong position of Turkish dried fruit in the global market is based not only on a production culture spanning many years but also on a robust institutional and technical infrastructure, Gabay said, “We have a strong structure comprising our research institutions, advanced laboratories, experienced producers, businesses with high technical capacity and exporters who closely monitor global markets.”
