Press release…

Stating that Türkiye’s annual cotton requirement is approximately 1.6 million tonnes, Fevzi Çondur, Chair of the Aydın Commodity Exchange and National Cotton Council, said, “Cotton is the raw material for the textile and ready-to-wear clothing sector, which is one of the driving forces behind our country’s exports and employment. However, due to recent cost increases, industrialists are turning to countries with low labour and energy costs.”

Pointing out that World Cotton Day is important in terms of reminding us of the role of cotton in a wide range of areas from agriculture to industry, Çondur noted, “Cotton is an environmentally friendly product that is in harmony with nature and indispensable for our future. We must protect our cotton for more production, more employment and a stronger economy.”

“Cotton production is of strategic importance for our country. A strong agriculture-industry policy that will ensure the sustainability of our producers, traders and industrialists is now essential. As the National Cotton Council, we will continue to seek solutions in cooperation with all parties in the sector,” Çondur concluded…
