“Türkiye’s annual bulghur production is 1 million tonnes”
Veysel Memiş, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mediterranean Cereals, Pulses, Oil Seeds and Products Exporters’ Association (AHBİB), announced that they have started a promotional move in order to expand the consumption of bulghur, which has a special place in Turkish cuisine, all over the world and increase its exports.
“Bulghur has embarked on a global journey blended with health, flavour and culture in recent years. Our country, which produces 1 million tonnes per year in more than 100 modern facilities, is the world leader in bulghur exports. Due to the change in consumer habits, interest in bulghur is rising due to its effect on healthy nutrition, a balanced diet and delicious meals,” Memiş said.
“Considering that approximately 6.5 million Turkish population lives in EU countries, we believe that our bulghur product will be more in demand in this market,” Memiş added.
“The highest exports in November to Iraq, Egypt and Italy”
Evaluating the export performance of AHBİB in November according to product groups and countries, Memiş explained, “As an association, we converted 204 thousand 464 tonnes of products into foreign currency in the said period. In the product groups we exported the most, pulses ranked first with a value of 35.6 million dollars, pastry products ranked second with a value of 34 million dollars, and oil seeds ranked third with a value of 30.1 million dollars. Iraq, Egypt and Italy were the top three countries to which we exported the most. We exported 32.8 million dollars to Iraq, 13.4 million dollars to Egypt and 11.2 million dollars to Italy.”
“The countries where we achieved the strongest increases in export volume were Singapore, Ireland, Panama, Dominic and Taiwan. In these countries, we ramped up our export volume up to 75 times,” Memiş concluded…
