VEYSEL MEMIS: WE RAMPED UP OUR CEREALS, PULSES AND OILSEEDS EXPORTS BY 31 PERCENT

Veysel Memiş, Chairman of the Mediterranean Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds and Products Exporters’ Association (AHBİB), announced that they realized exports of 2.11 billion dollars in 2022 with a spike of 31 percent compared to the previous year.

Noting that comprehensive incentive policies are needed to bring fallow agricultural lands and idle areas into production in Anatolia, the homeland of pulses, Memiş said, “We have facilities with a product processing capacity of 4 million tonnes in our country, where approximately 1.5 million tonnes of pulses are produced annually. Our equipment is strong, our client is ready. We believe that if the supply gap problem is eliminated, we will reach much higher export figures.”

“We achieved a 23.6 percent hike in the export unit price”

Stating that AHBİB, which evaluated 2 million 197 thousand tonnes of products in international markets in 2022, ramped up its export unit price by 23.6 percent and reached a value of 0.94 dollars, Memiş added, “We exported pulses, pastry products and vegetable oils. We reached a value of 664.4 million dollars in pulses with an increase of 61 percent, a value of 439 million dollars in pastry products with an increase of 34 percent and a value of 251.1 million dollars in vegetable oils with an increase of 46 percent.”

“In the said period, the product we exported the most in all product groups was red lentils. Red lentils, which we reached a value of 394.2 million dollars with a rise of 129 percent in 2022, constituted 19 percent of our regional exports,” he concluded…
