DAVUT ER: TABLE OLIVE EXPORTS REACHED 105 MILLION DOLLARS

In the 2020-2021 season, the Turkish olive industry earned 105 million dollars from table olive exports and 72 million dollars from olive oil exports.

Speaking at the ordinary financial general assembly of the Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters’ Association for the years 2019 and 2020, Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters’ Association (EZZİB) Chairperson Davut Er gave information about the olive and olive oil export figures made in the 8-month period of the 2020-21 season.

Indicating that the export of table olives was recorded as 60 thousand tons on the basis of quantity, Er explained that 105 million dollars of foreign exchange income was obtained from olive exports and 72 million dollars from olive oil exports. Er noted that the foreign exchange equivalent of black olive exports was 81 million dollars and the foreign exchange amount obtained from green olives was 24 million dollars.

Er said, “Germany was at the top of the list of countries we export to the most in both black olives and green olives. Germany was followed by Iraq, Romania, the USA and Bulgaria. Our table olive exports were 59 thousand tons in the first 8 months of the 2019/20 season, corresponding to 103 million dollars. Compared to the previous season, we achieved an increase of 2 percent in terms of quantity and amount.”

OLIVE OIL EXPORT HAS BEEN 25 THOUSAND TONS…

Expressing that this year olive oil exports started on November 1, 2020 and that the 7-month period has passed, EZZİB Chairperson Davut Er explained, “Turkey’s olive oil exports decreased from 31 thousand tons to 25 thousand tons with a fall of 20 percent on amount basis.”

Speaking about the ban on the export of olive oil in bulk and barrels from Turkey, Er added, “We carried out the process in accordance with the instructions of the Ministry of Trade and that they prevented companies with contracts for bulk and barreled exports from becoming victims.”

While the work programme of the Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters’ Association for 2021 was accepted, the 2021 budget was determined as 2 million 250 thousand TL.
