Veysel Memiş: Turkish bulgur becomes a favourite among Russian consumers

Veysel Memiş, Coordinator President of the Mediterranean Exporters’ Associations (AKİB), announced that they had achieved exports worth 1.35 billion dollars in May. Veysel Memiş stated that they had reached the highest values in the Iraqi, Italian and Romanian markets in the fifth month of the year and reported that they had achieved significant increases in export volume in the Belgian, Moroccan and Syrian markets during the period in question.

Pointing out that they made important moves in the furniture, paper, and forest products sectors in the United Kingdom and Azerbaijan, Veysel Memiş said, “We enhanced Türkiye’s confidence rate in bulgur, a traditional and healthy grain product, to 63.2 percent with the project we carried out in Russia in the grain, pulses, oilseeds and products sector.”

Emphasising that the impact analysis reports of AKİB’s vision project, the Turquality Bulgur Promotion Project, in the Russian market reflect encouraging data, Veysel Memiş noted, “The promotional activities we carried out during the campaign have significantly strengthened product awareness and consumer confidence.”

“According to the impact analysis report prepared, confidence in Turkish products among grain products reached 63.2 percent. Compared to before the campaign, the confidence rate soared by 4.6 percent, while the distrust rate decreased by 2.2 percent. Turkish bulgur has become one of the top choices for Russian consumers due to its health benefits, affordable price, taste and versatility in various dishes,” he added.

“While bulgur exports to Russia reached 16,000 tonnes in 2022, this figure was increased to 19,000 tonnes in 2024 through the Turquality-supported campaign. This resulted in a 12 percent increase in exports. This growth once again demonstrated the effectiveness of promotional activities and the potential of Turkish bulgur in the market,” he concluded…
