Press release…
Within the framework of the Ministry of Trade’s ‘Distant Markets Strategy’ , the Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters’ Association organised a sectoral trade delegation to Australia at the beginning of the 2024/25 season, flying 30,000 kilometres. As a result, exports to Australia increased by 143 percent in the 2024/25 season, rising from 2.6 million dollars to 6.4 million dollars.

In the first half of the 2024/25 season, olive oil exports from Türkiye to Australia soared by 162 percent from 1.7 million dollars to 4.6 million dollars, while table olive exports soared by 85 percent from 787,000 dollars to 1,452,000 dollars.

Türkiye ramped up its black olive exports to Australia by 94 percent, from 613,000 to 1.192 million dollars, while green olive exports grew by 50 percent, from 174,000 to 261,000 dollars. The Turkish olive sector’s pomace oil exports to Australia also jumped by 280 percent, from 88,000 dollars to 338,000 dollars.
Emre Uygun, Chair of the Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters’ Association, stated that Australia mainly imports table olives from Greece and olive oil from Spain, stated that they organised a ‘Sectoral Trade Delegation’ between 2 and 5 September 2024 with a target of exporting 40 million dollars to Australia, which imports 200 million dollars worth of olives and olive oil annually, and that they were delighted to begin reaping the rewards of the delegation.

Emphasising that this success in exports to Australia is particularly valuable during a period when olive oil production has broken records worldwide, average export prices have fallen by more than 50 percent and Türkiye’s olive oil exports have decreased by 39 percent, Uygun said, “The bilateral business meetings we organised during the sectoral trade delegation played a significant role in this success. We are steadily progressing toward our goal of securing a 20 percent share of the Australian market.”
“We are continuing our efforts to organise a ‘Olive and Olive Oil Sectoral Trade Delegation’ targeting Toronto, Canada, from 8 to 13 September 2025. We invite exporters who wish to be part of a similar success story in the Canadian market to join us,” Uygun added…
