ASÜD Chair Harun Çallı told Anatolian Agency (AA) correspondent that the International Dairy Federation (IDF) has defined ‘1 June World Milk Day’ as the foundation of sustainable nutrition.

Pointing out that Türkiye is an important milk producer in the global league, Çallı said, “The milk and dairy products sector makes significant contributions to the country’s economy.”

Emphasising that milk and dairy products exports have been fluctuating, Çallı said, explained, “We aim to achieve boosting momentum in milk and dairy products exports. As of 2024, our dairy product exports have reached approximately 500 million dollars. Products such as cheese, ice cream, butter, and UHT milk are exported to over 100 countries, primarily in the Middle East and Asia. Our 42 facilities are able to export to the EU. This success is driven by our industrial facilities that produce hygienic, traceable, and packaged products, as well as their investments and production capacity in line with international standards.”

Çallı also indicated that improving raw milk quality is essential to ramp up exports, adding that a spike in dairy product exports would eliminate the surplus in raw milk production.

“The sector has the potential to ramp up exports even further”

Reminding that exports exceeded 500 million dollars in 2021 and 2022, Çallı noted, “The sector has the potential to ramp up its current exports even further. On the other hand, imports in the sector were low compared to exports and imports amounted to 102.7 million dollars last year and 130.7 million dollars the previous year.”

Underlining that the dairy sector is constantly monitored by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and stated that consumers should prefer packaged products that have been inspected, Çallı concluded, “Milk-based beverages and snacks appeal to a wide range of consumers, regardless of age group. According to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute, milk and dairy product export figures for the 2020-2025 period are as follows: (in dollars)
