Dr. Mete Kömeağaç, Chairman of the Board of Turkish Seed Industry Association (TÜRKTED) said, “The coronavirus epidemic we are in has shown us that there is a need to question existing practices and adopt new approaches in the seed sector, as in many sectors both in the world and in our country.”
Stating that one of these areas is communication, meeting, congress and fair arrangements, Dr. Kömeağaç noted, “This year, the World Seed Congress to be held by the International Seed Federation of ISF in South Africa and the Seeding Congress to be held by the Asia Pacific Seed Association (APSA) in China were postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak. For this reason, ISF had to hold the World Seeding Congress in virtual environment.”
Pointing out that similarly, in many countries, national and international congresses, fairs, promotions, etc. activities were either postponed or carried out in virtual environment, Dr. Kömeağaç explained, “In this context, in order to prevent the seed trade from interrupting and to maintain the continuity of the seed supply chain, TÜRKTED has launched an international fair application called “turktedonlineseedfair” in electronic environment with the concept of Seeds and Technologies. Thus, TÜRKTED pioneered an application with a visionary approach and met a need of our industry. With this fair, it is aimed to increase our seed export and trade by introducing our country’s seed production to the world on the one hand and to contribute to the international seed trade on the other.”
“We are excited and proud to have started an application that will be the first in the Seed Sector. This year, we will hold a virtual fair for the first time in the field of seed production with our turktedonlineseedfair application, which will be held between 19-25 October 2020. We believe that our fair will be of great interest from the domestic, international and readers of TÜRKTED SEED NEWS newsletter.
