ORGANIC FARMING AREAS EXPAND IN EU COUNTRIES…

The share of organic farming areas in the total agricultural areas in European Union countries has approached 10%.

According to Eurostat data, the European statistical administration, the size of organic farming areas in the 27 member European Union countries increased to 14.7 million hectares in 2020.

The size of organic farming lands, which was at the level of 9.5 million hectares in 2012, increased in all union countries except Poland in the period between 2012 and 2020.

According to the data of the administration, with this increase, the share of organic farming lands in the total agricultural land in EU countries, which is currently 156.7 million hectares, rose to 9.1%.

While Austria is the country where organic agriculture has the largest share in the total agricultural area with 25%, Estonia is the second with 22% and Sweden is the third with 20%.

This rate is below 5% in eight EU countries.
