TÜRKTOB Board Chairman Hacı Ömer Güler stated that Türkiye is a major player in the global tomato production and seed industry, meeting its own needs.

Hacı Ömer Güler, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Turkish Seed Growers Association (TÜRKTOB), drew attention to Türkiye’s position in tomato production and trade.
“Türkiye’s tomato production in 2024 surged by 10 per cent compared to the previous year, rising from 13.3 million tonnes to 14.6 million tonnes. With this production, we rank third in the world after China and India. Many of our regions, particularly Antalya, Bursa, Konya and Manisa, are leaders in production. The country’s self-sufficiency rate is 117.1 per cent, and per capita consumption is 109.1 kilograms,” Güler said.
Güler also emphasised that tomato exports in the 2023-2024 season amounted to 533,000 tonnes, generating 459 million dollars in revenue, while imports were limited to only 463 tonnes, highlighting that Türkiye is a net exporter.

Highlighting that tomato seed production and exports have soared every year thanks to the efforts of the private sector and the work carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in collaboration with both production and R&D units, he added, “Türkiye produced approximately 14 tonnes of tomato seeds in 2024 and exported 16,568,000 dollars worth . We continue to grow with our own brands that are suitable for export and focused on consumer demands.”
