According to data obtained from Eastern Black Sea Exporters’ Association (DKİB), between January-June 2020, 1895 tons of tea was exported to 97 countries. 7 million 587 thousand 963 dollars were generated from the said export.
In the same period of last year, 4 million 815 thousand 385 dollars were earned in return for 1504 tons of tea exports. Accordingly, in the first half of the year it made tea exports from Turkey rose by 26 percent in quantity and 57.6 percent in value compared to the same period last year.
Belgium, Germany, and TRNC (KKTC) were the most exported countries.
In tea exports from Turkey during this period, Belgium took the first place with 2 million 486 thousand 531 dollars. 596 tons of tea was exported to Belgium.
In the first half of last year, 153 tons of tea was exported to Belgium for 576 thousand 438 dollars. Thus, tea exports to Belgium increased by 289.5 percent and 331.4 percent in value compared to the same period of the previous year.
Belgium was followed by Germany with 993 thousand 213 dollars and TRNC with 653 thousand 901 dollars.
“Tea exports will increase”
Şaban Turgut, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of DKİB and the Chairman of the Tea Sector Committee said that tea exports are increasing.
Pointing out that tea exports started with a record increase in the 2020 season, Turgut noted, “Turkish tea exports closed the first half of the year with a record increase. We believe that our export potential will increase in the following days.”
Turgut added that the diversity of tea exported countries has also progressed positively.
