Humanity’s passion for flavour increases interest in spices. The Turkish spice sector turns the search for flavour into an opportunity. Türkiye’s spice exports surged by 27 percent in the first half of 2024, from 89 million to 113 million dollars.
Stating that Türkiye is one of the world’s important spice suppliers, Muhammet Öztürk, Chair of the Aegean Cereals, Pulses, Oil Seeds and Products Exporters’ Association, said that they are the world leader in laurel and oregano, moreover they continue to export of sage, cumin, black pepper, paprika, sweet pepper, allspice, vanilla, cinnamon, cloves, sumac, rosemary, mahlep, nigella, fenugreek, curry, turmeric, saffron, ginger, cumin, coriander, fennel.
Pointing out that Türkiye’s spice exports reached 113 million dollars in the first half of the year, 74 million dollars of spice exports were carried out from the Aegean Region, Öztürk said, “Aegean Region received a 65.5 percent share of this amount. As in previous years, the Aegean Region showed its strength in spice exports this year. We aim to export 250 million dollars at the end of 2024 by maintaining our performance in spice exports.”
