Turkish food exporters have ramped up their exports to Japan, which imports 80 billion dollars worth of food products annually, by 75 percent in the last five years, from 209 million to 367 million dollars. Turkish exporters have set a medium-term food export target of 1 billion dollars to Japan.

Hayrettin Uçak, Chair of the Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association, announced that they have begun preparations to organize Türkiye’s National Participation in the Foodex Japan 2026, the 51st International Food and Beverage Fair, to be held in Tokyo from March 10-13, 2026, to achieve the 1 billion dollars export target to Japan.
Stating that they have been organizing the Foodex Japan Fair’s National Participation Organization for over a quarter of a century, he said, “We participated in the Foodex Fair in Tokyo with 42 companies in 2025. Aegean food exporters account for 126 million dollars of the country’s food exports to Japan, representing a 35 percent share of total exports.”
Highlighting that Türkiye’s food exports to Japan have soared by 75 percent in the last five years, as well as demonstrating a successful average export price, he noted, “Our average export price was 2.17 dollars per kilogram in 2019 and we hiked by 19 percent to 2.58 dollars by the end of 2024. This hike in the average export price supports our medium-term goal of $1 billion in food exports to Japan.”
