Türkyılmaz made statements to an Anatolian Agency (AA) reporter regarding the Ministry’s pufferfish fishing activities.

Pointing out that the effects of global climate change and sea water temperatures are increasing every day, Türkyılmaz said that invasive species are coming to the Mediterranean from the Suez Canal, negatively affecting both the marine ecosystem and fisheries.

Türkyılmaz drew attention to the fact that pufferfish are among the leading invasive species and reminded that they started “supporting pufferfish fishing” in 2020 to combat this threat.

Underlining that they contributed to the conservation of marine biodiversity with the application and supported fishermen in combating invasive species, he added, “Other countries bordering the Mediterranean have also started a similar buyback support program, inspired by Türkiye.”
