Selendi district is once again witnessing an intensive work in tobacco production. While contracted tobacco production was started with the support of private companies, farmers kicked off preparations for the new season.
Servet Akyıldız, Head of Selendi Chamber of Agriculture stated that Selendi is the place that grows the best quality tobacco in Türkiye.
In Selendi district of Manisa province, the intensive work of the producers in tobacco, which has become a favourite product in recent years, has started.
In Manisa’s Selendi district, the producers started to rush in tobacco, whose cultivation decreased due to quotas in the 2000s, but recently, contracted production has kicked off again with the involvement of private companies. The producers, who completed the harvest of the last season and sold their products, started production for the new period without even receiving their wages yet.
Stating that tobacco production is the favourite of farmers, Servet Akyıldız said, “The best quality tobacco is grown in Selendi region. Tobacco production, which is among the most important items of our district’s economy, has become the favourite agricultural product of our farmers. Growing tobacco is an art.”
“Producing tobacco is a tedious work, the rush has already started for the next period. After the tobacco seedlings are grown, the planting process will start in the fields. As a region, we have favourable soils for tobacco. The best quality tobacco in the country is grown in Selendi district and rural lands in the region,” he added…
