With the registration application submitted by the Mut Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mut, Mersin provincial district, olive oil has gained European Union protection. Its unique properties and high production capacity have earned it a significant position in the regional olive oil market.

Şahin Sezer, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mut Chamber of Commerce and Industry, emphasized the importance of the registration, saying: “Our district of Mut ranks first in the region and second in Türkiye for its 1,300-year-old monumental olive tree and olive sapling population. We have approximately 20 million olive saplings. Because no pesticides are used in these groves, the acidity is very low and the polyphenol content is quite high. Thanks to the careful harvesting and collection of our producers, our products are pressed in 30 high-tech factories and packaged without any waiting time. This makes our olive oil truly fruit juice. The process, for which we applied for European Union registration on April 4, 2024, was completed much faster than we expected and concluded today.”
Sezer said that 150,000 tonnes of olives and 20,000 tonnes of olive oil were produced from approximately 300,000 decares of land this year and that the yield is expected to double next year.
