Stating that tea consumption has increased in Turkey, Erdoğan also noted, “There is a stock of around 70 thousand tons in the store of ÇAYKUR transferred from last year. This was around 65 thousand tons the year before. The private sector had a stock of around 30-35 thousand tons last year too. Not much changed. Than we have produced 35 thousand tons more tea compared to previous years. But our stocks are the same. We produce more product yet we were able to sell and drink. We can see that the increase in tea consumption across the country. It is possible to say that tea consumption in Turkey raised to 260 thousand tons. I think that the yield appears to be the same this year.”
‘TEA DIVERSITY INCREASES’
Pointing out that apart from black tea, tea has been diversified with many products, Erdoğan added, “Very special green teas are produced. Very nice teas are produced and sold in the area of Of to Sarp regions. Producing and offering varieties of green tea in addition to the white tea, maybe it will enable us to produce special products such as teas sold to thousands of dollars in China tomorrow. Our Faculty of Agriculture has managed to catch the very special clones of magenta teas. They’re trying to make their selection. In the tea research, our friends brought us sheets of different ages. Different production is made from them. These studies will increase both the diversity of tea and tea will become more valuable.”
