“TANGERINE PRODUCED IN IZMIR WITH GOOD AGRICULTURAL PRACTISES”

The closing meeting of the “Good Agricultural Practices from Production to Export” project, which covers 100 producers in Seferihisar, Menderes and Selçuk districts of İzmir province, carried out in cooperation with İzmir Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry and Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association, was held in Seferihisar.

Good Agriculture Certification process was carried out for 17 thousand 260 tonnes of products on an area of 4 thousand 315 decares in 100 mandarin producers in Menderes, Seferihisar and Selçuk districts.

“We made controlled production from A to Z”

İzmir Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Mustafa Özen said that İzmir is the locomotive of Türkiye’s agriculture with its fruit production of close to 750 thousand tonnes and more than 150 plant diversity.

“It is one of the leading provinces of our country in agriculture. The sector on which the sectors are built in İzmir is agriculture. Agriculture is the starting point of civilization. İzmir is among the first three provinces of Türkiye in agriculture. İzmir was not affected by the climate negativities brought by the global heat. We experienced a yield increase in all of our products in this region,” Özen said.

“We produce, but we have a separate responsibility to produce reliable food. We want our Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) project to be disseminated. Our project was supported by 60 percent of our Ministry and 40 percent of our Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association. We made controlled production from A to Z, from protective clothing to masks, from water analysis to soil analysis. In agriculture, we must move from chemicals to biotechnical production, Good Agriculture, organic agriculture and increase our performance,” he added…
