Aronia, which has been cultivated by farmers in the Kürtün district of Gümüşhane province in the past years and called ‘super fruit’ because it is a source of healing, gave fruit earlier than expected.
Yunus Karakaş, Head of the the Kürtün Chamber of Agriculture, stated that the Aronia fruit, which is called ‘super fruit’ due to its positive effects on health, has a very high added value and can be sold up to 300 TL per kilo and stated that saplings were planted in a total area of 100 decares in the district and that they expect a production of 100 to 150 tonnes in the following years.
“Our aim is 1 million Aronia saplings in Harşit Valley”
Pointing out that they learnt that Kürtün has a suitable climate and land structure for this work in their meetings with expert friends and they started a study on this, Karakaş noted, “Then we made a project through Eastern Black Sea Development Project (DOKAP) and Trabzon Regional Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry and we established our gardens by giving support in every way. These plants should normally bear fruit in 4-5 years, but after 3 years in Kürtün region, it started to bear fruit quite efficiently. It is a very suitable fruit for our region. In Kürtün, we have a total of 100 decares of Aronia gardens, including approximately 60 decares of indoor garden and 40 decares of open field.”
“In 1 decare, you can get up to 1 and a half tonnes of yield. This means that we will have 100-150 tonnes of Aronia in the coming years. Our fruits are beautiful, our gardens are beautiful, but we have problems at this point because we are gradually moving to the marketing stage. Hopefully, we will overcome them,” he added…
