Producers in Karacabey Plain, whose tomatoes for tomato paste remained in their hands, started a protest on Bursa-İzmir Motorway. Gendarmerie and riot police teams tried to prevent the producers who demanded the return of their labour. Tomato producers chanted slogans such as “Let the hands reaching the farmer be broken”, “Government resign”, “Farmer protect your crops”. Farmers continue their protests.
Republican People’s Party (CHP) Bursa Deputy Orhan Sarıbal made a statement in Karacabey the previous day and said, “In Türkiye’s most tomato paste producing region, a crop that cost 3 liras in the field has unfortunately fallen to 2 liras 30 kurush in the free market. The farmer is really in a great loss and despair.”
“Tens of trucks of crops were unfortunately poured into pastures and went to animal feed. Just like in watermelon. Now it is time to give a hand to the tomato, to give a hand to the Karacabey farmer, to give a shoulder,” he said…
