Türkiye’s cherry exports reach 209 million dollars…

Türkiye as the world leader in cherry production and a strong player in exports, realised 209 million dollars of cherry exports with an increase of 4 percent in the January-July period of 2024.

Hayrettin Uçak, Chair of the Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association, said that in 2023, they exported 215 million dollars with an increase of 60 percent for 83 thousand tonnes of cherry exports.

Indicating that Türkiye continues to be the clear leader in both production and exports in cherries again this year, Uçak said, “In the January-July period of 2024, we exported 209 million dollars of cherries with a hike of 4 percent. We are by far the world leader in cherry production with a yield of 725 thousand tonnes. Our country is followed by the USA, Chile and Uzbekistan. We export cherries to 55 countries.”

Fresh sweet cherries

Stating that the biggest buyer of cherries is the European region, Uçak added, “In the first 7 months of 2024, Germany ranks first in our cherry exports with a hike of 25 percent and 114 million dollars. Russia ranks second with 2 million dollars with a hike of 41 percent, Poland ranks third in our cherry exports with a hike of 112 percent. We have 6 million dollars worth of exports to the Netherlands and Norway.”

“Türkiye has an annual cherry yield of 736 thousand tonnes. In the Aegean Region; 260 thousand tonnes of cherries are produced annually in İzmir, Manisa, Afyon, Denizli and Aydın provinces. We are the fourth in the world in cherry exports. In the January-July period of 2024, our cherry exports reached 66 thousand tonnes. This year, with the effect of the positive progress in cherry yield and quality, we boosted our export target from 250 million dollars to 300 million dollars,” Uçak concluded…
