PRICE HIKE IN EGGS AFTER HAVING HIT ROCK BOTTOM OVER IRAQ’S IMPORT BAN…

Egg prices, which bottomed due to Iraq’s halt to egg imports, peak during the pandemic process.

In the last month, while the price of the egg has soared by 30 percent, egg producers noted that the rise was due to the cost increase.

Stating that there is not an extreme surge in the price of eggs, Gaziantep Provincial Egg Producers’ Association Chairman Kenan Uygur said, “Egg prices have risen due to cost increases. We have been selling eggs below our cost for a long time since Iraq stopped importing. When we look at egg quality and cost increases, there is still a price scale against our producers.”

Carton box price varies between 15 and 16 liras…

Adding that the issue price of a 30-egg carton box from the producer is between 15 and 16 liras and the price varies according to size and size, Uygur noted, “We have 2 million laying hens in our business. We produce between 1 million 700 and 1 million 800 thousand eggs per day. We send some of the eggs we produce for export, to Qatar, Dubai, other countries in the United Arab Emirates and to a very small extent to Iraq. We are also the supplier of many national, regional and local markets in the domestic market.”

“No new investments are made in the sector due to economic conditions”

15 percent of the eggs produced across Turkey are produced in Gaziantep province. Gaziantep is the province that has made the biggest capacity increase and biggest investment in this sector in recent years. Until 5 years ago, Gaziantep had a very small share in egg production. However, it now has a significant share,” Uygur added.

“New investments are not made due to current economic conditions. Investments have not been made since the beginning of 2019. In fact, there are no new investments, instead some manufacturers go to production reduction,” Uygur concluded…
