Türkiye has approved zero-tariff maize imports for the fourth time since October 2024. Under the latest decision, 500,000 tonnes of maize can be imported at zero customs duty instead of 130 percent between 15 July and 31 July 2025.

The presidential decision was published in the Official Gazette on 14 July. The decision drew strong criticism from producers, especially those with only a few days left until harvest season.
Mutlu Doğru, Chair of the Adana Farmers’ Association, pointed out that maize producers have been producing despite drought, high costs and irrigation difficulties and highlighted the timing of the import decision.
