“Mersin, Adana and Hatay provinces lead the exports of fresh fruit and vegetables”

Press release…

October, 2026…

Whilst Türkiye’s fresh fruit and vegetable exports rose by 42 percent to 3.17 billion dollars between January and September, the Mediterranean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association ramped up its exports by 55 percent over the same period, exceeding 1.38 billion dollars.

Bülent Sarıkaya, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mediterranean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association, said that Mersin, Hatay and Adana provinces have played a significant role in the sector’s development thanks to their production capacity, product diversity and logistical advantages.

Assessing the region’s exports over the nine-month period by province, Sarıkaya explained, “Looking at export performance by province in our region, Mersin maintained its leadership in Türkiye’s fresh fruit and vegetable exports with exports totalling 937.1 million dollars and a 30 percent share. Hatay’s exports, meanwhile, rose by 22 percent to 375.4 million dollars. Adana’s exports stood at 129.9 million dollars.”

“A secure trade corridor in the Black Sea must be established urgently”

Highlighting that approximately 80 percent of the country’s fresh fruit and vegetable exports are transported by sea and 20 percent by road, Sarıkaya noted that any disruptions to maritime transport, particularly during the citrus season, when high yields are expected, could seriously hamper exports.

“As we enter the citrus season, a secure trade corridor in the Black Sea must be established as a matter of urgency. During this period of high yields, our inability to deliver our produce to markets on time could lead to significant losses in our exports. It is of the utmost importance that maritime transport continues safely and without interruption so that our producers can reap the rewards of their labour and we can maintain our position in our export markets,” he said…
