The dried fruit sector, which introduced Türkiye to exports and is the world leader in production and exports in sultanas, dried apricots and dried figs, put forward an export performance of 1.6 billion dollars in 2023. The Turkish dried fruit sector set an export target of 1.8 billion dollars for 2024.
The Aegean Region, which carries out 60 percent of Türkiye’s dried fruit exports alone, is experiencing the excitement of reaching 1 billion dollars in dried fruit exports.
The Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association (EKMİB), which increased its exports from 851 million dollars to 960 million dollars with a spike of 13 percent in 2023, the 100th anniversary of the Turkish Republic, aims to boost the annual export level above 1 billion dollars in the first quarter of 2024. EKMİB’s target for the end of 2024 is to reach an export level of 1.1 billion dollars.
Successful entry into the second century…
Mehmet Ali Işık, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association, announced that they made a successful entry into the second century of the Republic in exports and stated that they boosted their exports from 50.5 million dollars to 69.2 million dollars with an export growth rate of 37 percent between 1 – 25 January 2024 and that their exports reached 978 million dollars in the remaining 1-year period.
Giving information about the export performance of the dried fruit sector at a press conference held at the Aegean Exporters’ Associations (EIB) in Izmir, Işık said, “We are by far ahead in the world in sultanas, dried figs and dried apricots.”
“We alone account for 32 percent of the world’s raisin exports. In 2023, we earned 465 million dollars in return for 255 thousand tonnes of grape exports. Our seedless raisin exports soared by 8 percent. While our dried fig exports were 70 thousand 328 tonnes, we earned 271 million dollars in foreign currency with an 11 percent development from dried fig exports. In dried apricots, whose production is in Malatya region but our Aegean Region is the leader in exports, our exports rose by 1 percent from 400 million dollars to 405 million dollars,” Işık added.
“We exported 1 billion 140 million dollars in Türkiye from our three products that dominate exports in our sector,” Işık concluded…
