Mehmet Ali Işık made history as the first person elected as the Chairman of the Board of Directors from the organic sector in the 83-year history of exporters’ associations in Turkey.

Birol Celep, who served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association in the period of 2014-22, took part in Mehmet Ali Işık’s list as a Member of the Board of Directors.

Mehmet Ali Işık, Chirperson of the Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association, said, “When we took the job in 2018, we determined two themes for ourselves. We have made a commitment to you to grow healthy products and value-added products. We built our entire structure on this. We have carried out very serious studies on the basis of land in healthy products. By categorizing grapes, figs and apricots within themselves, we formed our committees and technical committees. We have reached 95,000 farmers with common mind and joint decisions.”

Underlining that the dried fruit sector has taken a very important step in growing healthy products, Işık emphasized that they have reached values below the EU’s MRL values for grapes.

“The frequency of control in grapes and apricots in Europe has been removed. It continues in figs due to alphatoxin and weather conditions. Thank you very much for supporting our committees and technical committee. Our second goal was to heighten the added value of our products. We increased the average export price of grapes, which was 1,500,600 dollars 4 years ago, to 2 thousand dollars,” Işık added.

“We implemented a purchasing policy to bring stability. We have created a stock of 40-50 thousand tonnes of grapes. This allowed us to have a comfortable season. We have a very good price policy for figs. We hope that we will achieve this stability in apricots as well,” Işık concluded…
