There is an excitement to start the new season in dried figs, the fruit of paradise. It was predicted that the 2023 yield of dried figs, in which Türkiye is the world leader in production and exports, will be at the level of 2022.
Mehmet Ali Işık, Chairperson of the Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association, stated that they have exported 68 thousand 593 tonnes worth 244 million dollars so far from the 2022 yield of 91 thousand tonnes.
“We have achieved an increase of 7 percent in quantity and 2 percent in value compared to the previous season,” he said.
Speaking at the Consultative General Assembly Meeting of the Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association, he noted that the 2023 yield was similar to 2022 and that the quality of dried figs was extremely suitable for export.
“In the 2023/24 season, we aim for 75 thousand tonnes of exports and 300 million dollars of foreign currency income on quantity basis. While the average kilogram export price of our country is 1.5 dollars, we want to make a great contribution to the export of value-added products by selling this quality dried fig over 5 dollars. May our new season be beneficial to our producers, traders and exporters,” he added…
