Exports of grapes, figs and apricots in the dried fruit sector exceeded 1 billion dollars…
Demand increased during the pandemic period for raisins, apricots and figs in WHO’s (World Health Organization) list of healthy products
Demand increased during the pandemic for raisins, dried apricots and dried figs, which are on the World Health Organization’s list of healthy products. The exports of grapes, apricots and figs, the magnificent trio of the dried fruit sector, reached 1 billion 5 million dollars, equivalent to 414 thousand 878 tons, in the 2019/20 season.
Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association Chairman Birol Celep said that Turkey is the world leader in exports of magnificent trio as defined seedless raisins, dried apricots and figs.
“We feel very happy because of surpassing the 1 billion dollar level in the 2019/20 season,” Celep added.
Celep underlined that by sending 414 thousand 878 tons of grapes, figs and apricots to 120 different countries in the 2019/20 season, they contributed to the strengthening of the immune system of billions of people across the world during the pandemic period.
Celep stated that they obtained 509 million 940 thousand dollars of foreign currency income in exchange for the export of 248 thousand 309 tons of raisins in the 2019/20 season.
Celep explained, “Turkey exported 96 thousand 777 tons of dried apricots during the season that resulted in the end of July. In return, we obtained 253 million 392 thousand dollars of foreign currency. Meanwhile export of dried figs season ended on September 30 and 69 thousand 791 tons of dried figs exported while 241 million 865 thousand dollars obtained in return.”
“On the other hand in 2018/19 season, the amount of raisins, apricots and figs exports had reached to 411 thousand tons and 996 million dollars obtained. However in the pandemic period which caused to contract of Turkey’s exports up to 11 percent, our exporters have managed to contribute the increase of our dried fruit exports, thus we would like to thank all of them,” Celep concluded…
