Konya Metropolitan Municipality applied for Registration of Geographical Signs to the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office in order to protect the tastes and local products of the province and to contribute to the development of gastronomy tourism.
With the application of Konya Metropolitan Municipality, the registration of Okra Soup, a flavour unique to Konya, has been obtained.
Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur Ibrahim Altay said that they want to introduce the delicious foods based on the culinary culture of Konya province to the whole world.
Altay also stated that they are working to contribute to the development of gastronomic tourism in the province. In this context, Mayor Altay noted, “We have made Geographical Indication Registration applications to the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office in order to register Konya dishes,.”
“With 51 food lists that include delicious tastes of Konya cuisine such as Bakery Kebab, Bread Salma, Tirit, Su Böreği, Okra Soup, which was at the top of the list in our application to the Patent and Trademark Office, was the first dish whose application has been accepted. Good for our region,” Mayor Altay added.
