JAK ESKİNAZİ: A STRONGER STEP NEEDED FOR TURKISH-JAPANESE FOOD TRADE

Press release…

Foodex Japan 2021, the largest food fair in Japan, where Aegean Exporters’ Associations organized national participation for more than 20 years with the support of the Ministry of Trade, has started.

Jak Eskinazi, Aegean Exporters’ Associations (EİB) Coordinator Chairman, said that Japan is Turkey’s third trading partner in East Asia and Turkey’s exports to Japan last year were around 423 million dollars.

Eskinazi said, “Japan is the world’s largest investor country and fourth largest importer. We can move our business to higher levels. Therefore, it is one of the most important focal points of our market diversification activities that we have focused on in recent years. The Foodex Japan Food Fair in Chiba is the most important pillar of the successful market strategy we carry out with Turquality, Ur-Ge (product development) projects, fairs and sectoral trade delegations in the Asia Pacific Region.”

“We are in a period where cooperation in every field is gaining more importance. We have to think carefully about how we will stand in the face of these new commercial alliances and developments. Technical Cooperation Agreement signed between Turkey and Japan was a new phase between the two countries. However, a stronger step is required,” Eskinazi added.

“Especially in a period when Japan signed a free trade agreement (FTA) with Europe, the USA, the UK, and has been included in the free trade block formed by the RCEP agreement signed by 15 Asia-Pacific countries; our country should go through the negotiations in terms of Turkey-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement,” Eskinazi concluded.
