After getting good results from the aronia fruit, which was planted for trial purposes on a 10-decare land in the Çarşamba Plain by the Samsun Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, it was decided to increase the production area to 100 decares.
In order to diversify agricultural production in Çarşamba Plain and create an alternative income source especially for hazelnut producers, the Aronia Cultivation Development Project has been prepared.
With the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the production of aronia, which was planted for trial purposes on 10 decares of land in 2020, was successful.
In order to boost the production area to 100 decares, in the first place, 4,400 aronia saplings, 75 percent of which were received as a grant, were distributed to the farmers with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and Samsun Metropolitan Municipality.
In the second stage, 11,880 aronia saplings will be purchased and distributed to hazelnut producers as an alternative crop.
“It has a higher income on one decare of land compared to hazelnut”
Samsun Agriculture and Forestry Provincial Director İbrahim Sağlam noted that Çarşamba Plain is under the pressure of hazelnut and poplar trees.
