TARİŞ Olive and Olive Oil Association Chairperson Hilmi Sürek stated that the price of 5 acid refining olive oil traded in the market is 165 liras per kilogram and said, “The price of 295 liras per kilogram, which has been highlighted recently, is the gross price valid for 0.3 North Aegean extra virgin oil, and there is no purchase of 0.3 acid, so it is not traded in the market.”
In his written statement, Sürek reminded that the Association started purchases on 8 November at the prices announced for the producer partners in the 2023-2024 season.
Underlining that not every olive oil is traded in the market, Sürek said, “The purchase price of 5 acid refining olive oil traded in the market is 165 lira per kilogram and the price of 16 acid refining olive oil is 75 lira. The price of 295 liras per kilogram, which has been highlighted recently, is the gross price valid for 0.3 North Aegean extra virgin oil, and there is no purchase of 0.3 acid, so it is not traded in the market.”
Sürek pointed out that the purchase prices were determined by taking into account the market prices from 30 cooperatives, product yield, yield commitment amounts of producer partners, quality status of the product, stock amount, sales targets, foreign market information and yields, product price payment maturity and noted the following:
“Before the season starts, oil samples are taken from other olive growing regions, especially from the co-operative regions, and quality research is carried out. As a result of both the relevant research results and the examinations carried out in the field, it has been determined that the amount of extra virgin olive oil will be low. Consumers will be able to eat olive oil according to their economic situation. There is no single olive oil for the consumer.”
“Currently, there are olive oils in various grades at affordable prices. Consumers who cannot afford to buy extra virgin olive oil will be able to consume riviera or refined olive oil,” Sürek added…
