Fresh fruit, vegetable and fruit and vegetable products sector brought 509 million dollars in Turkish economy.
According to the records of the Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association (EYMSİB), 509 million dollars of fresh fruit, vegetable and fruit and vegetable products were exported in the first half of 2021, an increase of 18 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
Stating that pickles were the products that were exported the most in the 6-month period in fruit and vegetable products, EYMSİB Chairperson Hayrettin Uçak said, in his written statement, “While there was an increase of 31 percent in pepper pickles, the hike in cucumber and gherkin pickles was 52 percent. Total pickle exports in the 6-month period exceeded 100 million dollars. Other products at the forefront of exports were apple juice concentrates, dried tomatoes, frozen strawberries and canned citrus fruits.”
Uçak also explained, “When looked at as a country, the highest export of fruit and vegetable products through the Association was to Germany with 70 million dollars. Germany was followed by the USA, the UK, the Netherlands and Italy, respectively. In the first half of the year, when fruit and vegetable products were exported to a total of 123 countries, exports to the first 10 countries accounted for 72 percent of total exports.”
Pointing out that in the first 6 months, the most exported product in fresh fruit and vegetable products was tomato with 30 million dollars, cherries with 25 million dollars, strawberries with 9.5 million dollars, dates with 8.2 million dollars and mandarin with 8 million dollars are other products with the highest exports, Uçak continued as follows:
“In other countries, the Russian Federation maintained its feature of being the country with the highest number of fresh fruit and vegetable exports by Aegean Exporters’ Associations (EIB) members in this period. Fresh fruit and vegetable exports to Russia surged by 16 percent and reached 65 million dollars. Germany, Romania, Ukraine and Poland followed Russia, respectively. The number of countries to which fresh fruit and vegetables were exported in the 6-month period was 71.”
“We are pleased that our exports rose by 18 percent in the first 6 months. We are resolutely moving towards our goal of 1 billion 200 million dollars, which was set at the beginning of the year. Especially in the last quarter of the year, with the start of overseas activities, our Association activities will also accelerate. We are getting ready to close 2021 with a new record,” Uçak added…
