Evaluating the issues on the agenda of the Turkish fresh fruit and vegetable sector, Ferhat Gürüz, Chairman of the Mediterranean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association, stated that they are very pleased that the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry will implement the certified agricultural consultancy model to combat pesticide residues, prohibited and unlicensed pesticides.
Reminding that the issue of certified agriculture consultancy was evaluated by the Ministry of Agriculture with the recommendation of the Mediterranean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association, which carries out coordinator and secretariat services in Turkiye as the leader of the fresh fruit and vegetable sector, Ferhat Gürüz said, “We visited our Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Vahit Kirişci, in his office in Ankara, and asked them for support. As a result of our meetings, Minister Vahit Kirişci gave the good news we expected at the meeting where he met with sector representatives in Mersin province last week.”
“We would like to express our gratitude to our Minister, Deputy Minister Nihat Pakdil and Deputy General Director of Food and Control of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Yunus Bayram, for their interest and support. As stated by our Minister, the agricultural engineers who will be authorized as certified agricultural consultants by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry will be in strong communication with our farmers from the time the seeds fall to the soil to the harvest,” Gürüz added.
“They will provide consultancy services to our producers regarding which pesticides should be used at what time and in what way and they will follow the practices. The implementation of this model brought to the agenda by our association will ensure the safe production and traceability of fruits and vegetables grown from the field to the table. Certified agricultural consultants will contribute to the cultivation of our certified products that comply with Tolerance/Maximum Residue Limit (MRL) values, have no residue problem and contribute to our country’s image in international markets,” he concluded…
