EU registration increases the visibility of Turkish products in the global market…

The number of Turkish products registered in the European Union (EU) has reached 42 and this registration enables products to gain visibility in the global market and gain a competitive advantage in exports.

Turkish products have been receiving successive geographical indication registrations from the EU, with Ipsala rice becoming the 41st product to be registered and Bursa chestnut sugar the 42nd.

Attention has turned to the benefits that registration brings to these products.

According to information obtained by an Anatolian Agency (AA) correspondent from the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TÜRKPATENT), a geographical indication is understood as a quality mark that shows consumers the origin of the product, its characteristic features, and the connection between these features and the geographical area.

Geographical indication registration ensures the protection of products that have gained a certain reputation for their quality, tradition and raw materials sourced from the region.

Geographical indications that represent products identified with the region, area, zone or country of origin due to their distinctive quality, reputation, or other characteristics can be registered as appellations of origin or geographical indications. Food, agricultural, mining, handicraft and industrial products can be subject to geographical indication registration.
