Elif Köse: Saffron harvest has started in Safranbolu

Harvesting of the world’s most expensive spice Saffron has started in Karabük…

Saffron harvest was held in Safranbolu district of Karabük province. In the event organised in the saffron field belonging to İsmail Yılmaz in the Keten neighbourhood of Yukarıçiftlik village, the participants visited the field and harvested saffron.

‘VERY HIGH ADDED VALUE’

Pointing out that saffron is a very valuable spice for the district, Safranbolu Mayor Elif Köse said, “Since 2015, saffron production has started to increase in the district. This is very pleasing. The added value is very high.”

“Safranbolu saffron also received the European geographical indication. I hope that saffron production will increase after this period,” Köse noted.

Stating that the interest in the district increases every year during harvest time, Köse added, “Tourism is a very important source of income for Safranbolu region. I invite everyone to see and harvest Safranbolu saffron on site.”
