Eastern Black Sea exporters to embark on Japan to promote Turkish tea…

Within the scope of the Development of International Competitiveness (Ur-Ge) Project “Enhancing the Export Capacity and Ensuring the Sustainability of Turkish Tea” approved by the Ministry of Trade by the Eastern Black Sea Exporters’ Association (DKİB), in order to examine new production models and technologies and innovative methods on site and to ensure the effective promotion of Turkish Tea by transferring mutual experiences with the institutions / organisations in Japan and the leading Japanese companies in the sector, a delegation programme is organised for Shizuoka, one of the important cities of tea production, as well as Tokyo, Japan between 20-26 January 2024 with 9 manufacturing companies involved in the project.

Ahmet Hamdi Gürdoğan, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of DKİB, who made evaluations on the subject, said that they kicked off the Ur-Ge project with the approvals of the Ministry of Trade in order to further develop and sustain the export of Turkish Tea, which is the green gold of the Eastern Black Sea Region and has a great contribution to the economy of the region as well as the Turkish economy and to provide competitive opportunities to the companies in the sector.

Stating that 21 companies in the project aim to develop products according to the demands of different countries with new production techniques and innovative products and to ramp up exports by effectively promoting Turkish Tea in countries that offer potential, Gürdoğan said, “For this purpose, we first organised this programme for Japan, which is a tea producer like our country and manufactures with the latest production techniques.”

Pointing out that they will hold bilateral business negotiations with tea production facilities and tea importer companies in Tokyo and Shizuoka cities where tea production is produced, Gürdoğan added, “Our country’s tea exports were realised as 25 million 388 thousand 621 dollars equivalent to 5.332 tonnes in 2023 and that tea exports were made to 118 countries. Moreover we are in an effort to boost the tea imports of Japan’s 9.340 kg equivalent to 56 thousand 246 dollars from our country in 2023 to much higher figures.”
