Dr. Mustafa Tan, President of the National Olive and Olive Oil Council (UZZK), said olive oil is a 2-year product.
With the prediction that olive oil production in the world will surge this season, the removal of the restriction on olive oil exports in Türkiye was welcomed positively by the sector representatives.
Pointing out that stocks accumulated in the market due to the lack of olive oil exports last year, Dr. Tan said, “The restriction on olive oil exports in Türkiye was made to prevent the rise in prices in the domestic market. However, since prices in the domestic market are related to world prices, this effect was not seen much. The sector has always wanted the export restriction to be lifted. Therefore, our sector is satisfied with the decision taken. With the lifting of export restrictions in olive oil, sector representatives started to see the way ahead. The lifting of the export restriction in olive oil will carry the sector higher.”
Dr. Tan also underlined that olive oil is a product with high added value for the country and emphasised that incentives should be increased for the export of packaged products.
Highlighting that the supply of olive oil in the world will boost over the next 2 years, Dr. Tan added, “Therefore there should not be any obstacle to exports for domestic producers.”
