Davut Er: Türkiye is the world’s largest producer of table olives and the second largest producer of olive oil and has a rich tradition in this field
Davut Er, Chairperson of the Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters’ Association (EZZİB), said that olive oil, which is an indispensable part of the Mediterranean-style diet that is gaining more and more importance every day, was first produced industrially in the workshops located in the Aegean city of Izmir.
“Türkiye is the world’s largest producer of table olives and the second largest producer of olive oil and has a rich tradition in this field,” he said.
Pointing out that as the segment of olive oil dishes in the world, Turkish culture, which preserves the original healthy recipes dating back thousands of years and carries them through generations, represents the country’s olive and olive oil sector, he explained, “Türkiye’s promotional efforts to ramp up its olive and olive oil exports to the US also emphasise this rich heritage and quality products. According to the latest data, Türkiye’s olive and olive oil exports to the US soared by 80 percent in 2023, reaching a volume of 199 million dollars.”
Highlighting that his increase is directly related to the growing demand for the quality and variety of Turkish olives and olive oil, he added, “Türkiye is expected to strengthen its success in the US market with its important position in the world market and products in line with healthy eating trends. In this framework, we will continue to be the biggest supporter of both healthy nutrition and Turkish Tastes – TURQUALITY Project.”
